How do we do it?

We truly live in a beautiful town, a town with a proud history and people who care about their neighbours and welcome visitors.

As residents we have a duty to keep our area safe so that we can continue to enjoy the many outdoor activities that our town offers, from walks on the beach to hiking through the fynbos in the mountains, from relaxing with friends at a backyard barbeque to swimming in the sea or estuaries.

That is why a group of dedicated residents established Kleinmond Street Watch. It is a community driven platform that ensures effective and quick response to criminal activity. It also empowers members of the community with information via well-developed communication channels.

Kleinmond Street Watch partners with the South African Police Services (SAPS), the Kleinmond Community Policing Forum (CPF), the Department of Community Safety and Overstand Law Enforcement.

To ensure effective management and excellent results we have divided the town into ten smaller WARDS. Each ward has its own WARD CO-ORDINATOR and each street its own street co-ordinator.

We achieve our objectives by means of:

  • Regular Kleinmond Night Watch patrols by volunteers.
  • Our communication network which ensures direct communication between the community, the SAPS and other role players such as security companies.
  • A system of immediate reporting of suspicious activity (cars and people).
  • Collecting information on criminal activity to enable analysis and therefore targeted action and tracking of incidents by the SAPS.

Kleinmond Street Watch can only do its job if all law abiding members of the community are involved. There are no difficult requirements and we can all do our bit. So if you are a home owner, business person, tenant, dog walker, retiree, worker, mother or work from home, we would genuinely welcome your involvement. Any household or business can register without any cost. Don’t leave your safety and that of your family up to someone else.

We are here to be the eyes and the ears of the police. We are not taking over the work that they do but we recognise that we can do an immense amount to ensure that the SAPS use their resources to maximum efficiency.

JOIN TODAY so we can watch out for one another. You can make a huge difference!
